I may have mentioned this in previous posts, but one of my favorite forms of plein air painting is using watercolor and my 4x6 postcard paper. I have been calling it my Scotland4x6 Project (using #scotland4x6 on social media) because it has become such a big focus of my hikes. I felt it deserved a special name!
Plein air is a way of capturing the magical aspects that a camera could never dream of!
Samhain, the Celtic New Year (and my New Year of choice), approaches quickly, and it leaves me feeling nostalgic. Soon the nights will be longer than the day, and I’ll find it more and more difficult to venture outside to paint.
This year has been a whirlwind and a joy for plein air. I’ve learned so much in a short amount of time, and most importantly, I’ve connected with the land in an intimate way.
I thought it would be fun to share this year’s collection of plein air paintings, and start to think about how I can improve for next year.
I’ll still get some plein air in this winter, just not sure how often!
Starting next spring, I’ll be offering one-on-one and group plein air painting lessons, as well as local painting trips, so stay tuned for more info on that!
For fun, we’ll go in chronological order, and I’ll throw in some photos of the areas I painted to give you some more context.
These paintings vary in size and medium.
